Environmental Health & Safety Engineer (4960-072)

Leads and implements Health, Safety and Environment programs to maintain compliance and reduce cost. Analyzes data and trends to develop training, standards and policies that enhance legal/insurance, government, and business Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Develops strong partnerships and is a liaison with internal and external inspectors for health and safety. Acts as a business partner to Steelcase leadership to effectively communicate the value of issues, policies and opportunities for improvement. Develops strategies and approaches based on trends or data using the appropriate engineering, mechanical, behavioral, electrical, administrative, and/or personal protective equipment (PPE) controls. Supports chemical spill control program development and environmental related issues. Driven to focus on leading and lagging indicators to improve the culture and reducer risk exposure. Serves as a liaison for plant issues related to fire protection, environment, health, safety and security. Inspects all areas of the facility for unsafe or unhealthy conditions, initiates corrective action as necessary. Examines plans and specifications for new machinery and plant layouts to ensure proper health, safety and environmental applications are in place (guarding, ergonomics, etc.). Collaborates with plant leadership and teams to achieve KPI's and business objectives. Leads and implements kaizens and continuous improvement teams to address trends in the business. Counsels, connects, and collaborates with employees who have health and safety-related concerns or problems.

Required Skills
Ability to exercise good judgment and tact and to act decisively under emergency conditions.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to apply understanding and tact when handling sensitive situations.
Able to conduct training programs using multiple media approaches.
Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environment programs/practices and lean manufacturing integration.
Ability to acquire advanced Safety Certification.
Able to use big data and A1 data to influence change in the workplace.
Required Experience
Education/Experience:
BA or BS Degree in related field.
Minimum of 3 years prior experience as a safety engineer or equivalent role.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
